Everything's New

Everything's New

It's a new season in many ways. As autumn approaches, we look forward to cozy sweaters, hot drinks and crisp walks through crunchy leaves.
For students, a new school year means new schedules, teachers, backpacks and school supplies.
For Inasmuch, we have a lot of news to share!

New Facilities

In July we jumped at the opportunity to rent a new space in The Gathering Church (formerly Bakerview MB) on Clearbrook Road in Abbotsford.
Our dedicated entrance leads to 3 administrative offices and a community room with couches, tables, a coffee nook, children's play area, ESL resources and washrooms.
In August we held our first community party in this building. About 80 current and former residents and staff gathered to look back on our summer with joy and thankfulness. We ate delicious food, cake and had a dance party! Some of us are better dancers than others.

New Programs

Our new space is inspiring us to envision creative ways to empower and advocate for Refugee Claimants. Some of these include grief support, educational workshops, ESL training and monthly community dinners.

New Team Members

We are thrilled to welcome new hosts in one of our transitional homes! Christina and Terrell have diverse cross-cultural experience ranging from Syria to Lebanon to Mongolia. Christina is fluent in Arabic. This warm, outgoing couple is doing a fantastic job welcoming newcomers and helping them get connected in the community.

New Life

Eight Inasmuch staff gathered to pray for a woman we support. With 2 children in tow and one on the way, she had the courage to leave an unsafe situation in search of peace. Her sheer tenacity and will propelled her on a long, arduous journey to Canada. Our staff worked diligently to help her move into our transitional housing, access medical care, and prepare for giving birth. We arranged safe care for her children during the days surrounding her hospital stay. One volunteer knitted a basket of cozy clothes and blankets for her little one. "I want his middle name to be Abbotsford," she declared. "This is the place that has welcomed and cared for us. I will never forget the people in Abbotsford who've shown us love." It is a powerful story. The day after we gathered to pray, a healthy baby boy was born. It takes a community!

We Need Your Help!

We have outgrown our furniture storage space! Inasmuch will furnish 35 homes this coming year for residents moving out of our transition housing into their own space.

We are looking for warehouse space or a storage room in a church for our furniture storage collection. Please contact Kelly at director@inasmuch.ca if you can help meet this great need.
